Cardiac Rehabilitation
Our Cardiac Rehab program strives to improve the quality of our patients' lives. The program emphasizes exercise to help patients achieve and maintain their optimum level of health. It it designed to increase the patients' physical fitness and to alter their risk factor profiles. Once referred by a physician, patients start a program which is individually tailored to meet their needs.
Phase One of rehabilitation begins in the hospital. After the patient's condition has stabilized, an individualized exercise program begins. This helps to build up strength and to recondition muscles. The patient also participates in an education program which includes instruction in coronary artery disease, risk factors, diet, stress, and exercise.
Phase Two begins when the patient is discharged from the hospital. This phase will last between eight and twelve weeks with three sessions per week. Each patient exercises at a level that is designed specifically for his or her needs. During the exercise sessions, the patient's heart is monitored by EKG radio telemetry.
Phase Three is a new addition to our program that we are very happy to be able to offer to our patients. This phase meets twice each week and does not involve heart monitoring. The purpose of this phase is for patients to continue their newly developed exercise habits in a safe and supportive environment. Since this type of program is not covered by Medicare at this time, patients are responsible for the $4 per session fee. There is no set enrollment period so patients can simply attend sessions whenever they wish.
Pulmonary Rehab
Our Pulmonary Rehab program is a goal oriented, educational, and therapeutic treatment plan which emphasizes exercise, education, and self-management. It is designed according to each patient's strength, motivation, and capabilities.
Phase One begins with assessment. Following the assessment, patients are educated on breathing techniques, the use of inhalers, and the use of oxygen.
Phase Two involves the reinforcement of the principles learned in Phase One in conjunction with exercise and cardiac monitoring.
Phase Three as described above is also newly available to our pulmonary patients.
