Dietary Services

Of course our Dietary department meets the nutritional needs of our patients while they stay with us, but its contribution goes well beyond that.

The department provides outpatient dietary counseling to those patients who have medical conditions that require an adjusted and monitored diet.  It participates in educating the community about nutrition and recently began hosting nutrition grocery shopping tours.  These tours are designed to inform participants of the benefits of good nutrition and to identify key ways to enhance their diets beginning at the grocery store.  The Dietary department is even available for catering to both small and large groups.

Home Bound Meals

Sheila Patrick, Judy Lebon, and Donna McGlauchlen of our Dietary Department deliver Halloween pumpkins to all home bound meals recipients.  They are pictured here with Katherine Kirkbride in her home.

The Pana and Tower Hill communities are also very fortunate to have the Home Bound Meals program available to them.  The Home Bound Meals program is a cooperative effort  between the Dietary Department of Pana Community Hospital and a very dedicated group of volunteers.  At the request of a physician, meals are provided to anyone in these areas, regardless of age, who has special dietary needs or who cannot prepare meals themselves.  Two meals are delivered daily by very caring individuals who volunteer their time even on weekends, holidays, and those rough weather days.  One meal is hot and ready to eat and the other gets refrigerated to be eaten later.  Together the two meals meet two-thirds of the U.S.D.A. daily nutritional requirements.

The cost of the meals is $3.00 per day and the total is billed monthly.  There is no minimum number of meals to purchase, so people can utilize the service to solve temporary problems as well as on an ongoing basis.  To cancel, just call 562-2131, extension 323 before 9:30 a.m. and you will not even be charged for that day.

If you live in the Pana or Tower Hill area and would like more information about the Home Bound Meals program or if you would like to begin receiving meals in your home, please call Willian Ade at 562-2131, extension 323.
