Auxiliary Holds Annual Meeting

On Wednesday, March 28th the Pana Community Hospital Auxiliary held its annual meeting in the hospital's community meeting room. President Diane Slater presided over the meeting.

The presentation for the afternoon was titled "New Faces at PCH". The speakers were Trina Casner, President and CEO; James Moon, Chief Financial Officer, Kim Rodgers, Foundation Executive Director and Barbara Sheets, Faith in Action Coordinator. Each person spoke about their new positions at Pana Community Hospital.

The annual business meeting followed the program with James Moon, Chief Financial Officer presenting the 2011 financial report for Rosemary Carlson, Auxiliary Treasurer who could not be at the meeting.

Bonnie Frye, who is in charge of staffing the volunteer desk at the hospital, gave a report on the desk for 2011. She reported 27 volunteers donated 1,100 hours of their time covering the front desk. Three Auxiliary volunteers have retired and include Harvey Morrell, Bruce Wieneke and Gerry Wieneke.

Virginia Ferguson, Donna Dixon, Joyce Morgan and Marie Horsthemke are in charge of the gift shop which is staffed by volunteers. It was reported that the gift shop is currently in need of volunteers. Most volunteers work one morning or afternoon a month. If interested, contact Virginia Ferguson at 562-5494.

Diane Slater gave a report for the Scholarship Chairman, Peggy Heaton. The Auxiliary currently grants tuition reimbursements to employees of Pana Community Hospital seeking to further their education. These reimbursements are approved by the Auxiliary and paid to the recipient upon completion of required courses.

Members of the Auxiliary approved two new scholarships to be given by the Auxiliary. One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Pana High School graduate entering college in a health related career. The second $500 scholarship will be awarded to a child of a Pana Community Hospital employee that is pursuing a health related career in college.

Old business included a report from Vicky Gullion, Holiday Bazaar Co-Director. Once again the Bazaar was a success. Gullion thanked Beth Hilton, Co-Director of the Bazaar; Georgette Merrifield, dining room chairman; Francie Schmitz, candy lane chairman; and Rosemary Horsthemke, grand raffle chairman as well as everyone else who donates their time to the annual Bazaar which is held in November each year.

Elections were held to install new officers for the 2012 year. Newly elected officers include: President Candy Craig, Vice President Sandy Pinkston, Secretary Vicky Gullion, and Treasurer Rosemary Carlson.

The Pana Community Hospital Auxiliary is a very important organization within the hospital. Anyone can join the hospital Auxiliary. Both the gift shop and the front desk are always looking for more volunteers. Auxiliary meetings are usually held the last Monday of the month. The next Auxiliary meeting will be Monday, April 23rd at 6:00 pm in the Community Meeting Room, lower level of the hospital. Meetings include a complimentary dinner served by the hospital Food Service Department.
